Project Description

Downsend School | Leatherhead

Downsend school is a co-educational Independent school for pupils aged between two and sixteen.

The project consisted of two phases:

  • Phase 1 – the remodelling and refurbishing of the existing buildings to create distinct zones for years 2-6 and the upper school including classrooms, library, science labs and a food technology room.
  • Phase 2 consisted of the designing and construction of a new building to house the Creative Arts centre including theatre, music classrooms, staff offices and changing facilities.

Our scope of works were from RIBA stages 3-7 including site monitoring, witnessing and handover.

Challenges faced on this project included working in a school which remained open throughout and designing around an unknown building structure and service routes.
